Join the Plastic Free July Campaign!

Plastic Free July is a campaign created in Perth, Australia in 2011. The aim is to raise national awareness on reducing the use of plastic in our everyday lives by eliminating single-use plastic services during the month of July. According to reports, “Consumer goods companies are costing the environment $75 billion per year through their use of plastics.”

At The Allergy and Environmental Treatment Center, LLC, we improve the lives of our patients by standing by the improvement of our environment. Not only is plastic production killing the economy, but the environment as well. For the month of July, the team at The Allergy and Environmental Treatment Center, LLC asks our patients to spread awareness on recycling and limiting the amount of single-use plastic.

Arizona has only recently made a push for recycling, now offering recycling bins in apartment complexes and businesses across the state. Without international awareness and action, society will only further suffer the repercussions of pollution, toxic risks, and economic downfalls. Marine pollution cost the US $13 billion in 2013. The ocean faces the most risks from pollution threats from plastics.

The FDA is slow to recognize plastics as a true threat to human health. However, the National Institutes of Health has indicated that specific risks of plastic usage do exist and affect the immune system. A number of chemicals in plastics are linked to eczema, allergic rhinitis, and asthma. While it would be virtually impossible to eliminate all plastics in our lives, we should aim to eliminate the use of plastic containers and their contact with food.

If you wish to participate in Plastic Free July, make a point to eliminate at least 4 single-use plastics: straws, plastic bags, plastic bottles, and coffee cup lids.
